Greater Manchester Transport and its successor, GM Buses was the PTE operator
serving the metropolitan county of Greater Manchester. The company had its
origins in SELNEC PTE (formed in 1969). GM Buses was subsequently split into 2
companies, the northern half eventually passing to the First Group with the
southern company becoming part of the Stagecoach empire.

GMT operated a midibus service between Victoria and
Piccadilly stations branded Centreline. Seddon 1732 is seen in Piccadilly

GMT 8731 is another standard bodied Atlantean, seen here in
Piccadilly Gardens on the long 82 service between Oldham and Chorlton-cum-Hardy.

March 1987 - and snow on the ground. A GM Buses standard
Atlantean in Bonsall Street, Hulme on the 47 service, a circular through
Chorlton and Didsbury. |

Summer 1987 finds GM Buses 8453 on the reverse working of
service 47 (numbered 46). The Northern Counties bodied Atlantean is seen
in Wilmslow Road, passing Platt Fields Park. |

Demand for new buses led to GMT turning to Park Royal for
bodywork on Daimler Fleetline chassis. GM Buses 7888 is seen at Victoria
Station carrying post-deregulation "City East" branding applied

GM Buses acquired a number of MCW Metrobuses with Northern
Counties bodies, as shown by 5307 near Stevenson Square, Manchester. The
bus is wearing a special livery applied to buses working limited stop
services and has high backed seating (Summer 1987). |
