This map is based on a map in History of British Bus Services - South East England by Colin Morris (Transport Publishing Company), which also contains an excellent history of Maidstone municipal bus services until 1980. It depicts Maidstone Corporation bus services as they existed in 1975 - former trolleybus routes are depicted in brown.
Tonbridge Road Depot closed shortly after the withdrawal of trolleybus services in 1967, operations being transferred to Armstrong Road (now the home of Arriva Kent & Sussex). All trolleybus routes were originally tram routes (with the exception of the Park Wood extension to the Sutton Road route). Trams also operated between Maidstone Cannon and Tovil; this service was replaced by motorbuses.
Occasional journeys (such as High Street to Tillings Works) are not shown.
A history of Maidstone Municipal Transport can also be found on Southbus.
This service was eventually extended to operate between Barming Bull and Park Wood.
Maidstone Borough Council also operated a dial-a-ride bus service between the East Station and Coxheath.
Some peak hour services from Loose and Park Wood operated to the East Station instead of Barming.
Most services served Maidstone High Street at some point (the one way system determining the extent of penetration to the Town Centre).
Buses on Depot journeys generally ran in service.
The correct pronunciation of Loose is "lose" (as in to lose something).
