Titan Twilight

This item first appeared on Southbus in December 1999

London's Leyland Titans are becoming fewer in number, particularly in the Stagecoach East London fleet. Route 30 between Hackney Wick and Marble Arch was converted to Alexander bodied Tridents about two years ago.

The following photographs were taken on 23 December 1999 when Titans still made up around 50% of the allocation for this route.

Titan 617 leaves Hackney Wick for Warren Street. Route 30 once operated between Hackney Wick and West Brompton and now follows a truncated version of this route. There was a brief period in the early 1990s when the route terminated at Trafalger Square, partly replacing route 14A.
T264.JPG (72040 bytes) In the last few months of operation, Titans on the 30 received side vinyls advertising free travel to and from Sadlers Wells, as worn by T264 at Hackney Wick.
T279.JPG (25139 bytes) T279 also shows Sadlers Wells promotional vinyls in Upper Street, Islington on 23 December 1999.
TA162.JPG (39596 bytes) Titans on the 30 are gradually being replaced by Alexander bodied Tridents such as TA162, seen here with a route 26 journey to Waterloo at Hackney Wick. Route 26 is a relatively new service, replacing the eastern section of route 6 between Hackney Wick and Aldwych.
Ta176.jpg (25667 bytes) TA176 on Route 30 at Highbury Corner, Islington. Tridents formed around 50% of the routes allocations at the time of this photograph (23 December 1999).
TA-UpperSt.JPG (45205 bytes) Two unidentified Tridents pass near Islington Town Hall, Upper Street. Recent Trident deliveries have featured lower deck rear windows as shown by the distant vehicle.
