Southdown in 1986

This is a map of Southdown East & Mid Sussex services on deregulation day, 26 October 1986.

As you can see from the map, Southdown registered only a basic network in East and Mid Sussex, mainly on the Eastbourne-Heathfield-Lewes-Brighton route (service numbers shown in red), together with limited stop "Stage Coach" services linking principal towns (service numbers shown in blue). Other services were subsidised or contracted to East Sussex County Council as part of the County Rider network (service numbers shown in green).

Services of other operators are not shown. Services 729 (Tunbridge Wells, Lewes & Brighton) and 791 (Tunbridge Wells & Eastbourne) were operated jointly with Maidstone & District. Service 799 (Hastings, Eastbourne, Lewes & Brighton) was operated jointly with Hastings & District.
