Showbus 2004

Southbus has been publishing pictures from Showbus every year since 1998. This is a personal selection from the 2004 EFE Showbus International event, held at Duxford, Cambridgeshire on 26th September.

	Aldershot & District 543 (MOR581), a 1954 AEC Reliance with Weymann B40F bodywork.
	Maidstone & District 2816 (OKO816G) a 1968 Leyland Leopard with Willowbrook bodywork making its annual Showbus appearance. The bus is owned by the 2816 society and is painted in M&D's coach livery.
	M&D 2816 was originally used on express duties. This rear view shows the boot doors and M&D scroll logo.
	Two vehicles from Nu Venture and one from Arriva constituted the 'Maidstone 100' display. From left to right are former Dublin Leyland Olympian with Alexander bodywork (H838PTW), Leyland Titan T857 (A857SUL) and Dennis Dart/Plaxton 3176 (P176LKL).
	I'm not a particular admirer of coaches but made an exception for East Kent 1971 AEC Reliance with Plaxton C53F bodywork (WJG470J).
	Colchester Borough Transport 90, a Leyland Atlantean with ECW bodywork.
	Network Colchester have recently acquired Arriva's interests in the town. 347 (H47MJN) is an all Leyland Olympian new in 1991.
	Great Yarmouth 35 (WEX685M), an AEC Swift with ECW bodywork.
	The Delaine of Bourne have recently adopted a 'Delaine Buses' fleetname, although number 47 (MTL750), a 1958 Leyland Tiger Cub with Yeates bodywork still carries the original scroll.
	Emblings of Guyhirn apparently couldn't decide which of its fleet to bring so it brought the lot. This is a line up of Emblings Bristol VRTs with a yellow liveried Leyland National in the distance.
	One of Emblings Bristol VRTs (HAH338V) was this 1980 series 3 example with ECW bodywork.
	An older vehicle in Emblings fleet is this 1961 Trojan minibus (MEB626).
	A pair of Bristols (I've used that joke before) represented by Eastern Counties LKD229 (OVF229), a 1954 LD5G and Lincolnshire 2378 (OVL473).

	Eastern Counties VR385 (OCK985K), a 1972 Bristol VRTSL6G with ECW flat screen bodywork is a regular visitor to Showbus and is exhibited by the East Anglia Transport Museum.

	Eastern National 1517 (FWC439H), a 1969 Bristol RELL6G with ECW bodywork.
	First Essex 2904 (M450VWW), a Dennis Dart with Alexander Dash bodywork. The bus has been repainted into Tilling Green livery - well, that was the intention at least!
	A 1981 Metrobus (SAG520W) in the livery of Imperial.

	Like Maidstone, Swindon are also celebrating their transport centenary in 2004. Swindon 112 (UMR112) is a 1960 Daimler CVG6 with Weymann bodywork.

	Greater Manchester Transport 2236 (RNA236J), a 1971 Daimler Fleetline with Park Royal 'Mancunian' H75D bodywork. The bus was entered by the Telford Bus Group.
	Ribble 338 (NCK338J), a 1971 Bristol RESL6L with ECW B47F bodywork. The bus is presented by the Ribble Vehicle Preservation Trust.

	Showbus 2004 celebrated 50 years of the Routemaster and RM1 was present taking pride of place in front of a Concorde prototype.
	A profile of RM1
	This is RML3, so named because it was fitted with a Leyland engine instead of an AEC power unit. The bus has recently had a radiator fitted resembling the original for this vehicle.
	RMLs on route 73 are now a memory as they may be soon on other TfL routes. This is one of two rows of Routemasters at Showbus 2004.
