Southbus has been publishing pictures from Showbus every year on the day since 1998. This is a personal selection from the 2003 EFE Showbus International event, held at Duxford, Cambridgeshire on 28th September.
| A Burwell & District 1962 AEC Reliance with Plaxton bodywork (932BCE). This Cambridgeshire independent was established in 1922 and sold its operations to Eastern Counties in 1979. | |
| Stretching the Southbus area a little is Delaine 72 (ACT540L), a Leyland Atlantean with Northern Counties bodywork, new in 1973 (entry number 404) | |
| A rear view of Delaine 72 | |
| Detailed view of the embossed fleetname applied to Delaine 72. | |
| Stretching the Southbus definition even further is Lincolnshire 2378 (OVL473), a 1960 Bristol FS with ECW bodywork (Entry number 274) | |
| Eastern National 2849 (NTW942C), a Bristol FLF with ECW bodywork now in the care of the Eastern National Preservation Group at the Castle Point Transport Museum. | |
| Eastern National 480 (217MHK), a 1959 Bristol MW5G with ECW bodywork. (Entry number 415) Digital | |
| Hedingham Omnibuses L84 has the distinction of being the oldest bus in the fleet. The Leyland Leopard PSU3B/4R with Willowbrook body was acquired new in 1974. (Entry number 210) | |
| I don't usually photograph new buses at rallies (it's cheating, in my opinion) although I made an exception for Hedingham L330 (EU53MVZ), a 2003 Volvo B72TL with Transbus bodywork. (Entry number 212) | |
| Devon General SM839, an Albion NS3AN with Willowbrook body. Digital | |
| VJG 187J, an East Kent AEC Swift with Marshall bodywork, now owned by the East Kent Heritage Trust (Entry number 411). | |
|
Reading 3, an AEC Regent III with Park Royal bodywork |
|
| Former Reading 38, a 1976 Bristol VRT with Northern Counties bodywork (NDP 38R), now in the livery of J.R. Morley & Sons of Whittlesey (although displaying blinds for Pangbourne). (Entry number 408) | |
|
An interesting exhibit at Showbus (and definitely not a Southbus) is Walsall 116, a Daimiler Fleetline with Northern Counties bodywork Digital |
|
Green Line RP21 (JPA121K) was reacquired by LCBS successor company London & Country with the business of AML of Hounslow. It was restored to original Greenline livery and ran in the Guildford area, appropriately as the last RP in service with LCBS was RP25 at Guildford. After moving to Horsham for school duties, it was dispensed with in the Cowie/Arriva clearout of the heritage fleet. (Description taken from the AEC bus page) |
|
| Green Line RP90 (JPA190K) was the last of the batch of RPs and was a late entry at this year's Showbus (Entry number 413) | |
| RT3183 (KYY912) has a Weymann body and was new to London Transport in 1950. It spent some time in Jacksonville, Florida after withdrawal. (Entry number 505) | |
|
Eastern Counties LS789 (5789 AH), a 1959 Bristol MW6G with ECW coachwork (Entry number 103) Digital |
|
| Hants & Dorset 3641 (GLJ 677N), a Leyland National in NBC dual purpose livery. (Entry number 702) | |
| Konect 204 (S170 UAL) an Optare Excel new to Trent Buses in 1998. Digital | |
| Southdown 603 (TPN103S), a Bristol VRT with ECW convertible open top bodywork new in 1977 and allocated to Brighton (Entry number 428) | |
| The rear of Southdown 603, showing the rear number blinds re-introduced in 1980. | |
| Southdown 684 (EAP984V), a Bristol VRT with ECW bodywork new in 1980. The bus is showing blinds for the 700 Coastliner service between Brighton and Portsmouth (Entry number 432) | |
| United Counties 587 (SVV587W), a Leyland National 2 new in 1980 (Entry number 712) | |
| Hastings & District 366 (VKE566S), a Leyland National new to Maidstone & District in 1977. The front lower panels appear to have been rebuilt at some point, resulting in non standard headlight clusters and bumper. You can see a photo of sister vehicle 367 in service in 1980 on the Hastings & District from 1980 page on this site. (Entry number 709) | |
| A Bedford JJL with Marshall bodywork (HKX553V), new to Maidstone Borough Council in 1979 (Entry number 816) | |
| A flat screen 1972 Bristol VRT with ECW bodywork (OCK988K) in London Transport colours. More information on this vehicle would be very welcome. Digital | |
| Weymann bodied RT3251 (LLU610) poses alongside similar RT3183. Like RT3183, this bus was new to London Transport in 1950. (Entry number 506) | |
