Aldershot & District 543 (MOR 581), a 1954 AEC Reliance
MU3RV141 with Strachans Everest bodywork. A complete history of this bus
can be found on the web site of the
Aldershot
& District Bus Interest Group, who own the vehicle. |

Southdown buses were notable by their absence (at least the
time I was there). However, I did find convertible Brighton & Hove
Bristol VRT Series 3/ECW 603 (TPN 103S) owned by the 603 Preservation
Group. |

Delaine of Bourne is not strictly a southern English
operator - however, I couldn't resist photographing 45, a 1959 Leyland
PD3/1 with Yeates bodywork (the radiator grill being reminiscent of
Maidstone's own PD2s) and carried fleet number 50 in the Delaine fleet
(registration RCT 3). Delaine are currently celebrating their 110th
birthday. |
 |
My excuse for photographing Delaine 72 is even flimsier - I
lived in Manchester for several years and the sight of a standard bodied
Atlantean was too much to resist. Delaine's 72 (ACT 540L) dates from 1972
and has Northern Counties bodywork. |
 |
This is not a terribly good photograph of an Eastern
Counties flat screen VRT - however, it's included for curiosity
value mainly. This is former ECOC VR378 (OCK 988K) and dates from 1972.
More about Eastern Counties can be found on the British
Buses web site by Peter Horrex. |

The prelude to a 1973 trip to the Norfolk Broads was a 2
hour wait in Great Yarmouth, where buses like this were still much in
evidence on service 1-1A-1B towards Lowestoft. This is Eastern Counties
LKD229 (OVF 229), a 1954 Bristol LD5G/ECW in original Tilling red
livery. |
 |
East Kent 7828, a Northern Counties bodied Leyland Olympian.
I won't say anything about the livery and you mustn't either. |

Hedingham
Omnibuses Bristol VRT/ECW L293 (RAH 268W) dating from 1980.. Hedingham
Omnibus are also celebrating an anniversary this year, having been
established some 40 years ago. |

Hedingham Omnibuses
Volvo Olympian/Alexander L300 (S300 XHK) with low height bodywork. This
vehicle is one of the latest acquisitions by the company. |

Maidstone & District SO224 (YKR 224), a 1957 AEC
Reliance with Beadle bodywork. This bus is owned by East Sussex Transport
Preservation. |
 |
M&D 2816 (OKO 816G), a Leyland Leopard PSU3 with
Willowbrook bodywork. After being placed in store initially after
delivery in 1968, this bus was based at Sheerness and later used as a
staff bus. These vehicles were used on express services between London and
Kent although they were later used on stage carriage services - 2816
making regular appearances on service 5 between Maidstone & Hastings. |

London Transport STL2377 (EGO 426) showing blinds for route
19. I saw this bus later in the day approaching Kew Bridge en-route for
Cobham Bus Museum. |
